Does that make him a UFA after next season then?

Because it allows them to explore their options as UFAs next season.

My source wonders if Cory Schneider will follow suit and sign a one year deal as well, leaving his options open for next season...

Your source wonders if Schneider will follow suit? Your source must be yourself.

Smart move by both players if they do it!

Cant blame them either, they must be fed up with being a back up when they are ready to the no.1 goalie.

I think if Gillis can only sign a one year deal he will be playing in Columbus then.

Schnieder saying he is in no hurry to sign -- why wouldn't he wait till Roberto dealt?

Rask has his shot to be a #1 this season with Thomas taking a year off...so he could strike it rich as a UFA next season...
Schneider would be putting a lot of pressure on Gillis and Nucks if he only signed a one year deal...

Just means they need to move Luongo is all.....If they can't rid themselves of him and schneider signs a 1 yr deal and Luongo is not gone by next year then Schneider walks away IMO....

Sportsnet just did an interview with schneids if you haven't read it today head on over and see what he had to say.

Who is going to pay what Gillis wants?....Luongo can rot on the bench in Vancouver as a backup until he has no trade value left....lol

Gillis will not let go a goalie he has under contract for 6 more years to sign a goalie for one year. If Schneider is only going to sign for one year it will be for someone else. Don't get excited Leaf fans Gillis hates Burke and has 10 other teams to choose from.

Because I believe that makes him UFA after next season and the man wants to get PAID and keep his options open!

Why would Schneider sign i.e. a 4 year deal at $3.5-$4M to make $14-16M when he could sign a 1 yr. deal for maybe a little more than $3.5-$4M and then can sign a massive deal i.e. 6/7 x $6-$6-5M on the open market in the summer of 2013? Schneider stands to far more money this way. Would anyone be surprised to see his agent try to steer him this way?

I'm sure Schneider likes Vancouver, but I'm certain that Schneider is more interested in HIS best interests and setting himself and family up financially for life.

This would also keep his options open to see how everything shakes out with Lu and it might even buy Gillis a little more time to ensure that he receives full value for Lu.

Not an ideal situation for Vancouver, but not exactly bad either.

This is all true as long as, by 6 more years you mean 6 + 4 = 10 more years. Unless 6 years is the "new" decade?

Nothing against Eks sources but Gillis will not let Lu go to sign Schneider for one year only.

10 other teams from to choose from for what? I hope you're not talking about Lu...
Lots of teams would be interested in Schneider, but again won't pay Gillis' high asking price, because if he signs a 1yr deal he is a UFA next July1...
So to put simply Gillis=Screwed unless he comes back to reality on his asking price for Lu...
